The Gallery/ Green Room Sound Collective

The COVID-19 Pandemic has undoubtedly provided great challenges for collaborative music-making, forcing musicians and listeners to grapple with rapidly changing ways of writing, performing, and experiencing music. Green Room Sound Collective has seen these obstacles as a chance to explore new territories in music creation and delivery. The result of this period of experimentation is The Gallery, a work involving elements of collaborative composition, multimedia arts, artificial intelligence, and elements of chance.

Staying true to Green Room’s mandate of collaborative, interdisciplinary creation, The Gallery unites over 30 creators in 5 different artistic fields in a virtual-reality style interactive experience. The Gallery invites the listener to explore a modern, story-evoking virtual space alongside a dynamically changing soundscape. Hundreds of short cells of music written by six different composers emanate from sources scattered throughout the space, changing their positions with each playthrough. The Gallery has been acoustically mapped to model a real space and is best experienced with headphones or stereo speakers.

Constantly evolving, The Gallery will forever be unfinished both in its duration and its composition. Green Room Sound Collective has, since the release of this project, placed an open call for recordings to composers, writers, and performers to submit new cells. More information will be released shortly.
